Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR #722 Stirling Moss / Denis Jenkinson

H0 / 1:87 plastic model, very detailed design and printing (with Union Jack flag and racing number), delicate wheels, length: 49mm

The annual Mille Miglia event in 1955 had a particularly attractive field of participants. Mercedes-Benz had big plans and sent an armada of four 300 SLR racing cars, which were used for the first time. Well-known top drivers were to challenge the fiercest competitors such as Ferrari, Maserati and Aston Martin for victory. Half of Italy was on its feet, eagerly anticipating the national racing event. The cars started from the famous starting ramp in Brescia at minute intervals. As the first of the Mercedes team, J.M. Fangio, as a solo driver, left the start and finish point Brescia at 6:58 a.m. with the randomly drawn start number 658 (start number = start time). The next SLR driver, Karl Kling, took to the 1600 km long track at 7:01 a.m. with start number 701. After that, the driver team around Hans Herrmann with co-driver Hermann Eger with start number 704 said goodbye to Brescia at 7:04 a.m. and pushed the SLR to its limits. Last but not least, the young daredevil Stirling Moss with his co-driver Denis Jenkinson launched himself into the race at 7:22 a.m. with start number 722. Due to his prudent driving style and his outstanding skill behind the wheel, J.M. Fangio reached the finish line in Brescia as the second winner, behind the winner Stirling Moss (also in an SLR).
